Department of Physics, Jamia Millia Islamia, is a vibrant department, with an active research program in various branches of physics. The Department of Physics was created in 1971. The strength of the faculty in the Department, at present, is 17 (Professors-7, Readers-4, Lecturers-6).  The department offers a three years undergraduate course B.Sc.(Hons) and a post-graduate course M.Sc. (physics).

The Department also has a full-fledged Ph.D. program as part of the ongoing research in the following areas of physics:
